Nice paddle with Garry, demo'ing the Dominator.
Easy cruise. Staying away from the tugboats, cargo ship and Stanford rowers.
I went back to Ferry Landing, this time with the intent to paddle south along the coastline, but as soon as I got to the first opening, I hit very shallow water. My fin stuck in the mud a couple of times and so I opted just to head straight out towards the island. The wind was steady and I was paddling directly into it so I was moving quite slowly. As...
My second, shorter, paddle of the day. Launched from Bayside and paddled out to Great Egging Island. I beached and walked around find raccoon tracks most likely belonging to the raccoon I saw last week. I sat down on my board and just watched a ton of birds flying around in nearby trees... mostly yellow rump warblers. The sun was shining and it was warming up and I couldn't help but take...
Out to R8 and back. Saw an awesome show of two tugboats spinning the cargo ship Nelvana around and leading her out the channel. The two-foot chop after she passed by wasn't much fun though.
Chilly, windy and choppy.
@ launch WD 010 @30-35mph. WD shifted to 350 and maintained speed for about 6.5 miles, then wind dropped to nothing and back on sporadically until zero with sloppy glue water the last two miles. Seas for the first 3/4 were very orderly with breaking wind swells off Kihei shoals where big drops and high speed spikes were encountered.
WD @ 080 20-30mph mixed wind swells with NW ground swell 6-8 feet. Good gliding with significant breaking waves at usual reef areas. Horrible slop inside reef to the finish. Hope to remember to turn off GPS at finish to get an accurate average.
